searching online for instructions about xorg.conf
configuration files, but I cannot find anything recent or relevant. Most
instructions are confusing and unclear.

The problem might be that X is not calculating the correct cursor positions
when the screen is rotated using xrandr

Also, this problem is not specific to KDE, but also GNOME and even the
Fluxbox window manager.

Ok, I was wrong. Looked at Xorg logs, and it shows that the
/dev/input/mouse* devices that correspond to the touchscreen are not picked
up by any of the existing configurations in xorg.conf.d

The solution then seems to be that the mouse input created for the
touchscreen should be configured as an absolute device, which will then
make it work correctly.
