ligatures. I believe polyglossia doesn't yet support shorthands for
Russian.

Anyway, you can check if this is the case if you type several words
starting from an accented letter (instead of the accented letter alone)
and make sure contextual alternates are enabled.

This is XeTeX, Version 3.1415926-2.5-0..3 (TeX Li
vipdfmx is linked with cidtype0.o for dvipdfmx, which causes it
to fail on any attempt to load an OT-CFF font. This can be fixed by
adding cidtype0.[ch] to dvipdfmx_SOURCES in Makefile.am (and rerunning
automake).
