I'me using rather old TeX live, and I took the fresh polyglossia from CTAN
(it is v.1.1.1).
So I replaced the gloss-russian.ldf from github (it differs from the CTAN
distribution) and now it works fine, thank you!

not mentioned in the manual, but there's some code in gloss-russian.ldf that
is probably assumed
