Why could it be? Xdv2pdf is dead. The code does not change, it's
stable now. So to me there is no reason visible to compile it over and
over again.

OK, I applied a patch and followed the instructions for building xetex on Mac
OS 10.6; xetex now builds, but I get this error: "failed to build the xdv2pdf
driver for Mac OS X." Is this serious? Were I to need it,, how would xdv2pdf be
built? I found nothing in the list archives about this.
