Actually it's simpler than that simply remove the wix projects from the
solution in VisualStudion and then add them back.
Everything works - including the edit buttons.

Another thing, the problem may be worse than described. On the BuildEvents
tab click the button "Edit Pre-build" and VisualStudio cra
s helps.
