That's strange since Dell's own TrueMobile wireless hardware is actually
relabeled Orinoco/Lucent hardware. It seems like there would be other
problems from devices such as video boards or capture cards that stress the
PCI bus more than a wireless LAN card...

you tried enabling the card's power saving features? I know some cards will go
to low-power mode when possible. Also, I wonder if USB adaptors draw less
current due to the limitations of the USB interface? I recently worked on an
install with some nice Lucent USB adaptors.

I know under Windows XP, you can select multiple network connections and
right click, and select "bridge" to bridge them. You would need 2
connections -- 1 hardwired to your DSL and the other wireless to your
neighbor's DSL.

Hehe, sounds like a simple analog signal strength meter. Doesn't seem like
it has any "smarts" inside to actually communicate with the WLAN. Sounds
like a simple receiver with some filtering.

Amplified antennas usually have an external amplifier module connected
inline with the RF cable leading from the wireless LAN card to the antenna
itself. They usually are powered by an external source such as an AC power
supply or solar+battery combo for remote installations.

You could try relocating the WAP11 away from the wall... I've run into
problems with placing an AP too close to a wall -- sometimes buildings use
steel beams or other metal components inside the walls, not to mention AC
lines, etc. These could be interfering with your range.
