Thanks John!
I downloaded the 4.2.9 32-bit (as opposed to 5.1.3f 64-bit ) version of
FrontBase and it imported the backup without a problem.

I tried yesterday on Frontbase, and plan on trying it out with OpenBase at

Greetings all,
I would certainly like to examine Frontbase and OpenBase. One to ensure
that we don't loose those capabilities, and two for some of the features
that are advertised in Frontbase that have a remarkable appeal.
That being said, are there any tutorials using Frontbase with migrations?

Wow, this is definitely a strike against the Chuck-beloved FrontBase!
In MySQL, the dump is a text SQL file with table create statements, data insert
statements etc . it even puts conditional comments around features that
MySQL version specific so that those are ignored by old versions that

Hi David,
The other thing you must watch out for is if the FrontBase data dump was
created on a PowerPC Mac or an Intel one.
Why? Because of big and little endians. It will cause you gas if your Mac
is not of the same architecture as the one that created the dump.
1)
If you are on Intel and th
You have to restore it on exactly the same version of FrontBase that was
used to back it up AND it must be the same architexture - if the backup was
from 32-bit frontbase you cannot restore it with the 64-bit executable.

Attached are 2 scripts, which may get you close.
One dumps a DB, the other will restore from the dump.

Things just get stranger and strangerer, apparently the backup was pulled from

You will have to restore it on to a PPC and then do a raw backup from there.

I installed a license, and now it fails just like it did for Florijan a couple
years ago:
http://lists.apple.com/archives/webobjects-dev/2008/Aug/msg00238.html with
"endian" issues.
So now I need to figure out how to get a PPC DB moved onto my Intel MBP.

Have you requested and installed a license from

E-Enterprise with LookSee? It's free but you still gotta do it.

Hi David,
It's so obvious that I'm probably wrong, but it seems to me that you need
licensed copy of FB to be able to use backup/restore functionality.

I've been trying to signup for the FrontBase Dev list, but it's not working for
some reason, so I thought I'd post this here since there's so many FB here.
This is my first time using FrontBase. I'm trying to restore a DB from a file
provided to me. I have FrontBase 5.1.3f installed.
