The actor who played Mr. Schwump in TAGS was in "Christmas in Connecticut",
a 1945 movie, with Barbara Stanwyck. He did not have a major or speaking

If my sources are correct, Jerry Van Dyke (Banjo Playin' Deputy) was offered
the part. He nosed out Don Rickles (The Luck of Newton Monroe) for Barney's
