to cmake is a mistake and that it needs to be reverted. Again the
only reason why VPP moved was for faster compiling by what a few
minutes but provide a messy interface to use instead. I guess VPP
does not care about easy of compiling but would rather have faster
compiling.

es, the autoconf is easier to
understand and understand how it works. Also autoconf is standard,
while cmake is very much unstandardized when it comes to finding
headers, etc. You need to pull in a library, here have a weird cmake
file which might or might not work.
