very slow screen refresh on vnc server

Hi, I run tightVNC viewer from my linux box while the server is windows2000. Is there a way to make the server screen refresh faster? Now is very very slow and is almost impossibile to use for example the browser on the server (that has a speedy internet connection) to download files thanx
