Greg All I machines use have DHCP for Wins resolution, with DNS Enabled and the Host Name is the machine name (which CAN NOT be the same as a users log in) and it works fine (now, Host name = user was the problem I had) just by entering the machine/host name as the VNC Server: Hope this helps G

I am trying to build Xvnc on an IBM ZX7 that is running SuSSE Linux. I was able to build the client just fine by just doing xmkmf then make World. However when I then tried to build Xvnc by doing "cd Xvnc", followed by "make World" I got some compile errors that I was not sure what to make of.

I'm not sure about this but I had this kind of a problem for diffrent programm. My Solution for static IPs is a host file on every workstation called lmhosts. The contens looks like this 102.54.94.117computername with Dynamic IP I would suggest your own DNS server. . .hope this helps or get

Simon, My original thought on your problem is that your xstartup file might be hard-coding itself to display danu:1? Or, is there already a VNC session running on danu:1 that it cannot connect to? I think the problem is not in X itself, but rather making sure you can start it with -cc 3.
