IMHO, user of server should have priority over the control of his own

Thanks to reply from the network experts. My company's network has
less than 40 computers and we're using ethernet switches. I suppose
switches are different from routers in that NetBEUI should work in switches,
right?
There's also an ethernet hub. Is it a switch or a hub?

hardware, right? If that's the case, you'd better talk to your admin to see how he
configures the device. By default, every port is closed across zones (outside,
inside, DMZ and VPN).

Since you use a router, you've probably setup a NAT. So it's
not your computer's IP address that you need, but the translated address
on the router.

Usually Win98 machine doesn't require a real login with password. But in
order to make WinNT machines accept SMB connection, Win98 has to provide such
information. Win9x provides such info from login info.
So configure your Win98 machine so that it requires a login with a non-e
PC is infected by a virus.

If your office network is behind a firewall, it's possible that the firewall
is configured to filter "ping" in both directions (ie from outside to inside and vice
versa). At least, this is by default for Cisco firewall.
