I've read through some past archives, yet I am unable to find an
adequate answer, so now I look to this forum for results:

If you are running Windows 2000 or XP, you can enable the Windows
Firewall on the incoming connection. Then you can setup VNC as a
running service within the firewall.
You may also notice a slight increase in lag or latency. Additionally,
my clients are set to remove background wallpaper upon connection. So
that is a nice visual indication to them that I am on the end user's PC.

Get a copy of ATTACKER.EXE over at www.foundstone.com from the resources
link.
You can set it to monitor the VNC Server port. It will play a .wav file
and alert you to a connection on that port. Of course it will initially
block the connection until you STOP the program and your tech will need

But then again.. Rather than use a separate product you could just
enable/disable the authentication feature when you login/logout.

My question to you is:
Why are you using VNC to remotely access a Windows 2000 Server machine
when you could simply enable Terminal Services in Remote Admin mode and
avoid all the trouble?

Most likely however, you will not have access to her machine as the
ports required for VNC will be blocked bye the local firewall and there
will be no PAT for her specific IP.

Are you running a GUI on VMS? Most VMS is CLI. For this you just need
to enable either SSH or Telnet. There really is no need for a VNC
Client for VMS.
Which GUI are you running if any ?

cable, backup my data and REFORMAT. You can no longer guarantee the
integrity of the system. Your box has been owned. There have been a
