RE: Trying to build the VNC 4.1.1free edition from source on IBM RS6000 using
AIX 5.2.
I've now tried this with XFree86 versions 4.5.0, 4.3.0, 4.2.1, all with the
same (no good) results. Somehow it is not picking up that
it is supposed to compile vnc files too.
And the ibmLib.rules all have the

Please don't mail mailing list posts to the list administration address.
Have you followed the instructions in the README, particularly regarding the
VNC patches to the X tree?

FYI, I'm currently using my existing PuTTY tunnel to which I *added* a
tunnel for 5902 in addition to the 5901, so that's probaby listening right
now. Here's the output of the netstat command:

FIXED! I killed the ssh session that was using port 5901, shut down my VNC
session and restarted it using my script and it opened on :1 this time!
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! I never would have thought
that sshd would keep me from starting VNC! :-)
Thanks again!
Just an FYI that this has been resolved Please see my other message from
a few minutes ago with the "resolved" in the title for details.

You want to connect to the external IP addr, and use port forwarding to
connect to your VNC server running on your local machine.

You need to use the IP of your router when trying to connect from the
internet. It is not surprising that your ISP would change the IP if you're
on a DSL or Cable connection. That's why "dynamic DNS" providers exist at
all... :-)

How do I test from the same machine? In other words is their a way to see if
VNC is working from the machine where the VNC server resides? Or do I have to be
remote?
