I'm testing out both RealVNC & UltraVNC and was wondering if RealVNC had any
plans to integrate file transfer. If not then what do people use to transfer
files back and forth. It needs to be user friendly so you don't have to pick
asc/binary like ws_ftp and a simple interface.
Thanks,
Chris
So maybe he should compare it against VNC Personal or Enterprise which
have builtin encryption?

Thanks guys!
Okay, so, I setup an SSH server at home, and am using PuTTY at work to
create a tunnel. I had to use port 443, as port 22 is blocked. Seeing that I
had to use a tunnel, I decided to use RDC instead of VNC. Viola! It works
like a charm. Both RDC and VNC work great through the tu
Hi, does anybody know how to clear the list of previous IPs used on VNC?
Shouldn't this be a security issue...? For example; i VNC into my machine at
home whenever i can access internet points whilst i'm away, but am at various
locations most of the time and the pcs i use mainly have VNC installed
regedit and go here
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RealVNC\VNCViewer4\MRU
Delete the entire mru folder that will clear the history.

If they are monitoring to that level, it will probably look like you are
doing a lot of HTTPS traffic to them. As both (HTTPS and SSH) are
encrypted, there's nothing much for them to see but byte counts...

Hello
It is possible to clear the list of previous IPs used on VNC. This has to be
done through the registry. If you go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software|RealVNC\VNCViewer\MRU, you will find entries
numbered 00, 01 etc. On deleting these entries the list of previous IPs will
be deleted.

Ok, i am sure its been brought up before, but i need to change, and
hardcode the port #.
59xx will not work, i need to move it to a lower port due to firewall
restrictions that are
out of our control, and using SSH/etc for port redirection isnt
practical since im using
systemtools' STRCM to loa
Do you think they can they tell the difference in their scans as to whether my
traffic is HTTPS or SSH, or would it all look the same to them?

I'm not really sure. If you are that concerned, maybe you shouldn't use
it :)
I suspect its all going to look like a random bunch of bits...

The difference will be that it will appear that you are mainitaing a
https session for as long as you leave the tunnel up.
I agree with kevin as well about if you are unsure then perhaps not.
Even pr0n is only 1's and 0's and they usually get upset if you move
those bits around at work.

If I may ask, why hardcode? The configuration allows any port to be selected?

The problem is the client. When connecting to a server, you can specify
the port offset from 5900 via "x:" in the connect string. I
don't know how to make the client use a different base.

If the server is set to allow encryption, will it still allow the viewer to
connect without using encryption. Ultravnc was allowing me access even though
encryption was set on the server and I didn't think for security it

It depends on how you turn it in. Quoting the documentation:
Prefer On: Creates encrypted
