Angelo,
Thanks for the information about port 5500. I guess that's the piece
that I am looking to make it work.
As for the configuration of the router, I do not have access to it. It
is an ISP provided router. I do not know how to do it. I am using a

That's the one you'd installed by hand. Uninstall it.

Hi,
I am using RealVNC 4.0 Java Client to connect to an Xvnc tight.1.2.9

Eric,
One way to achieve this is to save a .vnc connection-info file for each
host. You can then name the file whatever you choose.
Alternatively, you could set up some DNS aliases for the machines.

Hi,
Correct me if I'm wrong here but didn't the V3.* of the viewer remember the ip

Hi,
Just having moved up to the client v4 I see a username box along with
the password one, the username being permanently greyed out on my
setup. Is it really for passing the u/p to the target server, & if so
how can I enable it please? Thanks.

A guess - Disabling the clipboard might solve this. Maybe the
clipboard hook is crashing?

Ok. How do I do that?
I looked in the install script, and it's all just cp's.
The old files weren't preserved. Can I reinstall the original Xvnc
from source?

Eric,
What is the difference between:
1. configuring a DNS C-name to redirect a "mnemonic" name to host name
2. having a "friendly name" mnemonic for each host name in VNC Viewer
3. using .vnc file for each host as a mnemonic for the host name
4. configuring hosts to redirect mnemonic to host nam
Eric,
The current VNC Server release doesn't support the username field.
Usernames will be supported by VNC Enterprise Edition.

Ernest,
You should contact RedHat regarding the Xvnc process crashing - they will
almost certainly have applied patches to Xvnc rather than simply providing
the standard VNC binaries.
As has already been suggested, closing the vncconfig clipboard helper (or
unticking the clipboard management opti
