Stan,
next build of VNC Manager (http://www.s-code.com) will include support for
RealVNC4 remote installations.

I think you are logged in to the remote unix machine using ssh. That provides

Well, I hope this help you find out why VNC3.3.7 isnbt stable in Win2003
Server :)

Teng-Fong,
When you say "crashed", do you just mean that the connection was dropped, or
did the server actually crash?
You initially specify that you are using VNC4, and then refer to VNC3.3.7.
Which are you actually using?
Cheers,

David,
I may be wrong here since I have never actually set up port forwarding.
But looking at the screenshot you pointed to, it looks like you may
have misinterpretted the meanings of "Start Port" and "End Port."
I believe that "Start Port" refers to the port being accessed on the

Good morning,
I'm having a problem with a RedHat 7.3 System acting as a VNCServer and
a WindowsNT Workstation (4.0) as a client.
Everytime a user opens an XTerm in the VNC Window on the WindowsNT
system, it immediately crashes the VNCClient.
A 'ps aux |grep vnc' on the 7.3 system reveals that
He should have used at least urpmi which is easier.

For WinNT platforms, you could use the command "netstat" without any
parameter. It will give you a list of all establised connections. You could then look
at the line saying :5900.
Hope this help.

You'd better give us a (brief) description of a scenario what you wanted to do
because personally I don't get what you meant exactly, and since nobody else had
answered, I assume it's the same for them.

Hello All,
how does one hide the icons on the taskbar for viewer and server?
Thanks,

Heya. Most likely, your work PC is on a LAN that is
protected from Internet connections with a good firewall. If
so, you won't be able to ping it or VNC to it (but neither
will the "bad guys"...and that's a good thing).
The easiest way to get VNC working in such a case is
to a
vnc 4.0; it is already installed.

Let me answer your second question first: VNC4.
Actually, I'd been using VNC 3.3.7 with Win2003 Server for several months but I was
always having problem with it (VNC server was causing errors and being shutdown by
system). And finally, I switched to VNC4 because others said it's more st
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I have tried to track down which
program is using the memory, but the strange thing is that the sum of
the memory used by the processes (sum of VmSize in /proc/IDs) doesn't
equal the total memory used (taken from header of top output for
instance).
Below is
My home PC runs XP Pro SP1 with the latest ZoneAlarm free version. It's
also behind a D-link DI-604 router although I don't think that's the
problem. To connect to my work PC I first start VPN. Once connected I
then start VNC viewer. But I never get the password prompt from work PC
unless I change
I am getting very similar issues on W2K3 servers with TightVNC 1.2.9. I suspect a
conflict with the Terminal Server console mode may be at the root of the issue.

Okay, I've read a lot of rather 'heated' messages about hiding the icons.
Let me say that while this is gul and I certainly want to keep vnc legit in
all respects, there must also be the realization that there are perfectly
legit reasons for wanting to hide the icons. First and foremost, for me at

Hello fellow VNC users,
I'm glad to let you know that today we have released a simple, but yet
useful web based VNC access.
Basically this is a web page, which hosts our VNC ActiveX control, and
allows you to access your VNC server from a browser window.
Currently this feature is available for Wind
