Does your mouse has a USB to PS/2 adapter? If yes, try to use PS/2 adapter
with VNC first. If that works, then try back the USB adapter. I don't know how to
explain, but sometimes it seems to be a matter of driver.
On the other hand, take a look in the BIOS if you know what it
There are "default" settings and "user" settings. They can have different
passwords. Use the same in both and you should be OK.

Hi,
I'm using the 4.0b4 version on RH7.3 and RH8.0 because I need the xinetd
"wait" functionality. This works great BTW.
I do get a lot of font differences between the native X server and Xvnc,
so I tried adding "-fp unix:/7100" to the Xvnc parameters. XFS is
running and the unix:/7100 was taken
Hi James,
Thanks for your help.
I think I got the answer why this happens although I don't know the solution yet.
The root cause may be the Solaris version. The version I am using is Solaris 5.5. I've
tried Solaris 5.7, 5.8 later, and it works quite well.
Although some people suggest me to use
Rick,
Yes. I think there have been problems noted in the past with VNC on
Solaris, that have boiled down to X-Server "optimisations" and bugs therein,
if I remember correctly.
The next VNC 4 release will be in the next couple of months. :)
Cheers,

If you disable all display driver acceleration, via the Display Control
Panel, you should find that it becomes visible, though the performance won't
be that hot!

I have the same mouse (connected via USB), and don't experience this problem.
I would have to guess that this is centered around the computer's power
options. For example, do you have the "allow the computer to turn off this
device to save power" option ticked in the mouse settings? If so, then I
What are you doing in order to try to send the Ctrl-Alt-Del keypress? Are
you using the Send Ctrl-Alt-Del menu item?

How do you get to the "F8" menu on a Linux VNCViewer? I can get the

On the subject of funny colors, it would be be nice to get the version 4 unix
viewer to use truecolor, without having to change the system X server default,
for while that does fix the VNC color problem, it has some negative
consequences for some other X clients that I need to run.
Is there a trick to getting the log files to work?

I am new to VNC and to this list. I work in an office with multiple

The remote sites include Macs and PC's on Windows XP.

Heya. Sorry for the late reply. Here's another possibility:
different Ethernet NIC's can come with different MTU sizes. Due to
the IPSEC wrapping of your packets in a VPN, an otherwise functional

Thanks for everyone's help on this, but it looks like we were all chasing the wrong

In the VNC Viewer options, I changed the Encoding Type to "Raw" instead of "ZRLE". I
was then able to connect just fine to both BOX_2
I have a network of windows machines all running VNC so I can remotely

The only thing is that I need to look up the netbios name with nbtstat

Are there any front ends that will start a vnc c
Maybe "VNConsole" will do what you want. I use it to admin a network of
Windows, Solaris, HP-UX, and Linux boxes.

I've been using 3.3.7 for a while to work remotely from my Mandrake 8.2
box at home on my Win2k workstatin at my office with no problems.
Worked so well and was so stable I thought I'd try out the 4.0 version.
And, yeah, 4.0 is a nice improvement over 3.3.7. I just used the .exe

Glad it worked. Not the first place I would have looked!

Actually, the power options for the mouse would have been my first guess,
but I don't see any options in the control panel under mouse
Of course, my mouse USED to dim after about 10 seconds or so and stays
bright all the time now, so who knows?
