This indicates that your SSH server is (mis-)configured not to support
forwarded connections, rather than any problem with VNC. :)

That is not a behaviour you will ever see.
VNC Server will *either* return "Too many security failures", without
prompting for a password, *or* will prompt for a pass

John I have disabled and they are using a netgear wireless router.
Disable the XP firewall on your parent's machine and get them to use a NAT
router instead. It's a heck of a lot more secure anyway!

I would suggest checking your NIC and video drivers to be sure they are up
to date. And when you describe booted out, does either machine lock up?
What video card and NIC do you have in the machine.
