Are you sure this problem is 100% related to VNC? I mean, it's a certainty that running VNC occupies some CPU cycles and thus things are a little slower. But have you tried to launch Gnome without VNC, eg in a native XWin session? If you're sure it's a matter of VNC, what I could sugge
