I would certainly advise you to set up Face Id and try it because it makes
unlocking your iPhone so much easier compared to having to put in a Pin.
But of course your pin will always be there and if Face Id doesn't work you can
use it.

You can always ignore Face ID even if it is set up and use the passcode. But,
in the settings for face ID and passcode, there should be an option, no doubt
at the very bottom, to tell it to stop asking you to set up face id.
