Carolyn, Check your accessibility shortcut in settings, accessibility. It never does that on my phone, or anyone else's phone with whom I have worked. Unless, and this is important, you have more than one thing toggled on under acfessibility shortcut. Or, you have some kind of assistant turned on.

I got my 16E yesterday and everything is working fine. You do need to voice train Siri so if you missed this step, perhaps that is where your problem lies. Until this new phone, I have always had a home button so my current difficulty is learning the gesture to reach the home screen and the app
