I too have tried mythtv and found it to be a big bloated slow piece of
crap. It seems to be a bunch of odds & ends slapped together rather
then a solid dvb app built from the ground up. Not impressed with it
at all.

I have ubuntu installed and all vdr stuff comes from repo. It has worked
well but suddenly the remote started to act weird. Most of the time all
works well but sometimes it seems like vdr-sxfe or lirc starts to buffer
keypresses so that first nothing happens when I push a button on the
remote b

I do all that in vdr-sxfe but there's a lot of work being done to use xbmc
