I have also applied this patch to tcpserver and am getting this
error.
MYSQL Error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket
'/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock'
I found that the file lives in /tmp/mysql.sock
Does anyone know where to set the path for this?

This may be because you are setting the pop3 user in your run
script. Look at mine and try removing the vpopmail user.
