This is very easily worked around by just creating the domain as usual
(vadddomain) and then just removing the directory of the "slave domain" and
making a symbolic link from the slave to the master domain.

(499 in this particular domain's case).
After I deleted the trailing newlines the standard vpopmail commandline,
qmailadmin & vqadmin tools act more sanely.
