Disabling cells in a notebook

Is it possible to disable certain cells in a notebook to prevent them from running? There are certain long-running process or renderings that I do not necessarily need to run all the time. I realize that I can comment out the code, but I'm wondering if there is a way (or a plugin) to do this w
