I can confirm that the jsvc packaged with 5.5.23 configures and
builds on a x86_64 SuSE 10.0 system.

2) download a more recent tomcat (5.0.28 is 3 years old release)
3) download a more recent jsvc (http://commons.apache.org/daemon/jsvc.html)
