Working with shared hosting on 5.5 - logging options?

Hey guys, I'm working for the first time with a client that requires I deliver a .war, and it gets deployed into a shared environment where I have no control and can't get access to the logs. What can I do from within my .war file to get a local copy of logs related to my application only redirect
