Feedback from customers indicate that this sometimes is work blocker, as "the
system won't let me change the date and I cannot do anything" so, I think
this deserves a JIRA.
(Calendar should use the date if it is parsable, if not just ignore it and
replace it when user chooses a date.)

Nevermind, after a lot of searching I found the issue: JBoss.
Apparently JBoss defines its date formats differently and I need to
start it up with
-Dorg.jboss.util.propertyeditor.DateEditor.format=dd/MM/
