I occasionally get mails bounced due to a "syntax error".
They dont look suspicious to me, however.
Is there a tool to"validate" mails?

Likely there is a compatability option in the IBM compiler that will allow
C++ comments. Most compilers have had that feature for a decade, but it
isn't always enabled by default.
