of gcc that is not shiped with the distro the kernel is supposed to be

can you please be much more detailed in your report.
include kernel version and the linux-distribution you use on your host as
well as your vpsid.conf file. also explain how you've created your
ubuntu-12.04 container and what error message you get when "vzctl enter"
fails. also pasteb

Errors were encountered while processing:
libcgroup
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
chkconfig was installed on the machine in question.
Can I expect more problems to be caused by this, or is it safe to ignore
the failed post-install process?

Maybe it's time to also put out a warning, discouraging people from
using Ubuntu as a platform as there are a few hackish things required
(rsyslog, dm-mod) in order to get it running?
