Your OO version is on your machine and there is no way to tell what version
you have on your machine without having physical access to your machine.
On my Windows system the icon on the desktop automatically displays the

Its hard to try to troubleshoot without knowing what spreadsheet you are
actually working with.
As a courtesy I have sent a copy of this reply to you as well as to the

Rory correctly notes that OO 4.1.1 will open .doc file extensions.
However, there have been issues in some instances with .docx file
extensions.
There are work arounds for the .docx issues, but you should be aware of the
potential for issues with the .docx format.

I'm with you. The whole "styles" approach is ridiculous.
I still have a great fondness for Word Perfect. The "Reveal Codes"

Sadly, for all practical purposes, Word Perfect is functionally dead.
OO is a poor second

You couldn't be more wrong.
With OO 4.1.1 there is no money involved.
What is involved is how I choose to employ my time.
And with me, and apparently a lot of other people, learning the "styles"
silliness is not worthwhile.

Alan, thank you for the tip.
I use 4.1.1 on an old Dell Latitude D600, running XP. I have 2 gigs of
memory installed (board maximum). The CPU is a now ancient Pentium, 1600

It takes a LONG time to boot up.
