I didn't know about that. BTW even the newest version of Libreoffice has
this bug. Seems to be hidden deep deep in some attic part of the code.

To add a little...I copied the 'soffice' script and added a couple changes to
get it to run soffice.bin under gdb - namely, adding "gdb --args" to the binary
execution, and then changing the call to 'basename' to remove my extra suffice
(I called it soffice.brm, so basename --suffix=.brm instead
Okay, figured it out. Looking through Muon Software Center I discovered there
was a whole series of language packages that were not installed even though I
had specified the base package (openoffice-en-US, openoffice-en-GB). Doing the
following fixed it:
# apt-get install openoffice-en-US-* ope
