My experience is that the next time you open, Open Office it will give you an

Oh BTW, in the future, you may want to save an important doc as you build
it. Ctl/S after the first named save will do the job.

When you save a document OpenOffice need to do some housekeeping, therefore
always allow some time befo
USually modern desktop have powerful search features to find files created
at a certain date, you can use this to locate your document.
I wouldnt relly *only* on AOO recent files menu.
Depending on your OS you can use Spotlight in OSX, or Windows Search in W7/8
