The documents are probably just fine and some settings in your computer
system need to be adjusted for you to find
about 5 mins so I'll see if
that makes any difference.

You simply mis-installed 4.1.1
You say upgrade went smoothly.
But we cannot say unless we see the entire output
of the upgrade.
I assume you are using windows, right??

You didn't say what operating system you are on but this may help if it
is Windows:

current user?
If you installed for just the current user, were you logged into an
Admin account?

When you do file -> open, can you see the documents?
If so, what message do you get if you try to open the document?
