im not sure, but maybe your experience with calc is ridiculously limited and
you should spend 5 to 10 minutes more to explore the proram. my hint to you:
there are a menubar on top and some buttons with main functions. with left
mousebutton you can select cells and active buttons.
I found a compatibility bug between AOO 4.0.1 calc and LibreOffice 4.2.2.1 calc
(portable-apps-version)

i copied some cells with simple data from Libreoffice and paste them into AOO.

Its a very good idea to bringt out the update 4.0.1 in september. I notice this
bug in calc too.
Would be great, if the users of AOO get bugfix-releases (like 4.0.1, 4.0.2,
just bugfixes, no new features!)
at interval of about 4 -5 month (circa 3 bugfix-releases /year).
