Yes, it sounds like the file association is set to Microsoft Office. They
do not make it easy to change.
You need to open a folder where one of the files is located.
Right click > Hover over open with > Select Open With > Choose another app
Click on *More options*

I do believe that the problem is due to Micorosoft Office being on my
computer. When I get a new laptop I do not even activate Microsoft Office and
