a) At some point in time, both templates and extensions that are "old"
are no longer listed, when one does a search for them;

I used to have word and it did spell check automatically wit suggestions.
Upgrade to LibreOffice. The error causing spell check to malfunction was
fixed there a long time ago. Also it is actively developed and has no
currently known security vulnerabilities.
