Thanks for OpenOffice! I've used it for the last year and find it
marvelously useful!
If OpenOffice emulates Microsoft Office fully, OpenOffice has some
encryption functionality. Does the encryption functionality of
OpenOffice rely on OpenSSL? If so, does a patch exist for OpenOffice

Depends on how heavy your formating is. If your document is a simple
text document with very few inserted objects chances are that it would
be able to display with no issues. Otherwise you will need to adjust
to OpenOffice formats.
