I'm trying to compile WRF against openmpi4 installed using Spack, using gcc
7. It's hitting lots of errors of which the first appears to be in the mpi
header:

For some unknown reason, this macro declaration seems to cause the
crash ... when it is expanded,
and the logs you posted do not show that.
Could you please post a larger chunk of the logs?
please run 'make -j 1' so no logs are interleaved and hence hard to decipher.
