According to my experience, kdiff shows the differences a lot more
clearly than plain diff.

Looks like it was marked dead in Fedora in September. You can use
gnome-rdp or remmina instead.
it surprised about yet another compression tool when I saw
the review, but my suspicions were not raised at the time. IIRC the
unzix code does concatenation, and compresses the concatenated files
using a call to zlib.

What JD probably meant is that the repo file does not work on 32-bit
(x86_32) Fedoras, since $basearch is still set as i386 for some releng
reason (IIRC this has been discussed on fedora-devel some while ago).
You should be able to fix the repo tree with a symlink by m
.org/wiki/Features/F12X86Support
I don't know how many other distributions still support i586 hardware,
but you can run at least CentOS 5 on it (which still has a couple of
years left of updates left).

which is rather simple to do, since CentOS 5 is basically Fedora 6.
Basically what you need to do is replace the fedora-release package with
the centos-release RPM (and you probably want Fedora EPEL, as well), and
then run yum update. This can all be done remotely in an SSH session.
backup the
installed system as well, then you should do a full backup.

You must be joking. Fedora 14 is EOLing in a couple of months, after
which you'll be stuck with an insecure, obsolete system. Fedora 15
works great.
If you don't want to do distribution upgrades once (or twice) a year,
install s
rd processing it's a killer application. For
instance, cross-references work out-of-the-box and the GUI is very
simple and easy to use.
And, since it uses LaTeX on the background, you can really do very neat
things with it, if you want and know how.
