Update from the front:
I tried the same SD reader on Ubuntu and I could not see it with fdisk -l.
However, when I put the SD card in a different slot in this reader, it worked!
I will try the same on Fedora and let you know...

2. does the reader support sdhc cards (>2gb) and if no and the card is
greater than 2gb it won't work.
