Much better to just poke some holes through the firewall, than to
completely disable it.

Thank you, sir, for your kind reply.
I tried to disable the firewall (service iptables stop) and started
aMule again.
This time, there is no more warnings of "LOW-ID". But it still hangs
with the "Cancel" button while trying to connect.
Any more help would be much appreciated.
