I had something similar happen to me, repeatedly, recently; after the screen saver kicked in (goes blank) I would have to reboot the system. Hunting about (I do not remember exactly how I stumbled upon it) it was due to firefox (org.mozilla.firefox) inhibiting the power manager. I could click on
