You could try a stand alone app like "dvgrab" which is available in
Fedora or if you want a more full featured movie editor you can try

I have Canon Optura 60 camcorder connected with USB cable to my
computer. dmesg shows that camera is detected but I have no idea what
application should I use to capture the video.
