According to the docs from man yum...
"keepcache Either `1' or `0'. Determines whether or
not yum keeps the cache of headers and packages
after successful installation. Default is '1'
(keep files)"
A fresh install of f17 shows
grep cache /etc/yu
pkill -f name-of-process
That normally works if you know the name of the thing in the first place
