Thank you all for your kind help. Finally I solved it, but a stupid
MS way. I stopped all processing and restarted the box. After
rebooting the "su" works normally.
I feel shame for such "resolving" (actually it stays unresolved)
Thank you for thinking about it. :)
Also "su" only (without "-") was hanging. The /root was 550 as before.

FC18 has a completly rewritten grub and behaves strange way.
Sometimes the USB stik boots, other time the same one doesn't.
I haven't got any option in anaconda what to choose. When I finally
got FC18 installed only multiuser target came as the

Please advise, how to create a USB Flash memory to
be bootable and contain a full FC18 distribution (~4GB

I copied (by using dd) the image file but only some
minimal installation was inclued.. :(

Ooops! It looks that I haven't been in contact w/ FC for a long time! I made
the link,
but now switchable workplaces come without normal GUI as the startx brings.
May I ask for a next advise ? ;)

Great, Martin! It did help ! ;)
I installed over 600 packages and was able to run startx.
But after rebooting X doesn't start but again only CLI comes. :(
Probably you know where the frog is sitting, don't you?

I used FC13 and I needed to upgrade to FC18. So I created
a USB installation flash and installed Fedora 18. But after
booting only CLI comes. I can login and use it normally but
