even run puppy Linux reliably from a flash drive. I don't trust it with my

Another clue: I copied a binary file from the system drive to another, and on
each drive to a local subfolder. cmp is reporting differences in all of them.
What the hell is going on? Is this thing crazy or possessed?

Lockups can come from bad memory, so I would recommend you run memtest86 before
anything else. Sometimes you have to let it go for a couple days before it
finds anything. A non destructive drive test like DFT wouldn't be a bad idea
either.
