I have many programs which g++ has produced and I own. These could
be the target of a virus. It would be easy for me to wipe all of my
executables and re-make them but I just realized that unlike many
LINUX folk, I am somewhat virus vulnerable ... maybe with quotes around
the word. Worms, Trojan
I would go with the flow. Redhat 6 is out in beta. You might
have to go with 5.x and upgrade. IT likes having support for
any problems. We use Redhat our servers and Fedora for our
work stations.

I always load open office. I can not imagine a work computer not to
have open office. I can see how it could be left off due to space
constraints. It is not a big deal, I just load it after the first
boot. The main thing I want from a live CD is answering the question:

I think one of the prices you pay for the LiveCD is the
space constraint forbids putting large packages on the
CD. I tend to use the install DVD unless I am worried
about hardware working with the defaults. But it is
easy to add Openoffice, octave, gcc and other packages.

I am trying to install only fedora on a new Dell precision T1500.
No duel boot or anything. I think the issue is that it is too
new to be included in the general support. The live Fedora 12
just dies with a black screen, The DVD Fedora 13 goes into a
"install error, sleeping forever" message. T
I must have said that wrong.
After the format, the mount failed and before the install quits
it allows me to save the error message for later examination.
I was not able to find where the information was saved on the
file system of the live cd.
