There is a good reason that the rpms are fc14.rpm etc. It stands for Fedora
Community.
None the less it is Fedora 14 not Fedora Core 14 that is the distribution
name.

I can reproduce this problem on F14/i686.
Emacs crashes if it is run from a shell spawned by 'su' only.
This is because root's enviroment isn't setup.
If you su - and run emacs then emacs pops up but there are various assertion
errors printed to the terminal session.

I'd seriously consider if the box is okay/check the installation.
Are you using systemd?
And by the way it's just F14. FC6 was the last Fedora to bear the Core name.
